2021.12.06 08:45 ewokblubber One reason for why it feels like there are no quality men: The college gender gap, and what to do about it.
I've recently finished a book that I found very insightful, though parts of it were either repetitive or didn't think far enough, which means I don't consider it worthy of a full book report. Still, its main finding and premise is worthy of discussion, I think.
There is a huge gender gap in college attendance. In most Western countries, roughly three women attend college for every two men, with some variance between countries.
The book's name is Date-onomics by Jon Birger, if anyone is interested. It's decent, but there's nothing in it that can't be glanced from this quick summary.
The national average for the gender gap in US colleges is now something like three women for every two men. Basically, women outperfom men in the education system to such a degree that there are colleges that now boast a ratio of two women for every one man (!).
What does this mean? Bluntly put, it means that if you're a college-educated woman who wants to marry a college-educated man, mathematics do not work in your favour. In addition to mathematical realities, there's also the fact that in an environment where men know they are scarce, they do not bother being quality mates and pressure women into casual sex.
Basically, the theory goes that the reason why so many women perceive there is a lack of quality men (not necessarily men- male attention, of course, is plentiful and cheap) is because there is. If you don't want to date down, there just aren't enough male college grads in the first place, and of those that exist, the 'oversupply' of women has turned a lot of them into undateable trash.
So, what do you do to combat the 'man deficit'?
The first idea would obviously be relocation. Certain cities, like New York, have a 'man deficit' so huge that there are two college-grad women for each college-grad men. Conversely, certain other places have a much greater availibility of college-grad single men. This is primarily places where a 'male niche' exists. Silicon Valley- more college-grad men than women due to the tech industry. Aspen- two male college grads for each female one, because of the sky industry!
A softer idea is internal relocation: In my (non-US) city, there are two equally excellent universities, one focused on sciences exclusively and one focused both on sciences and law, businnes, and design. The enrollment stats are staggering: The humanities-and-sciences university has three point five women for two male students (!), whereas the one that only teaches hard sciences has three men for every two women! Obviously, a bar closer to the latter's campus would be a better place to find single men in college.
There's also the fact that even when shuffling the people around a bit, even taking into account there are certain niches in academia that are still male-dominated, in the end, there are more women than men with a college degree. That means you either get comfortable with the idea of marrying a man with a stable, non-collegiate career (certain trades make A LOT of money) or you get comfortable with the idea that the statistics show that there isn't a male college grad for every female one, much less a quality one.
In my opinion, it's important to know these stats. But it's equally important to remember that they should NOT inspire a mindest of scarcity in college-educated women. They should instead remind you of how much more educated, beautiful, and attractive the average woman is to the average man. They should remind you of your worth, and of the reason you worked hard on that degree in the first place: To be able to live a beautiful, full life independently.

I honestly want to repot it but after 7 days of shipping, i don't think it's a good idea. Did you have similar experiences?

2021.12.06 08:45 ScottishKingFisher I don’t know what to do
My husband is in the military and has recently been away for 3 weeks. When he came back, one evening in bed, I opened up to him and told him how anxious I was feeling because it felt like something had changed. He reassured me and told me everything would be ok. The next morning he told me that he wasn’t sure if he wanted to continue with our marriage. I was so shocked. He eventually said it was because he hasn’t felt the same way for 6 months, and he doesn’t love me anymore. When I suggest couples counselling, he refused and said that he knows it will just get worse. I was obviously heart broken at the thought of my husband no longer loving me, after only two years of marriage. It didn’t add up and I could feel that he had loved me in those 6 months. My parents drove 3 hours to pick me up and take me home. The next morning, I received a text from him admitting that he had slept with someone while he was away for those 3 weeks. He also said that what he had previously said about no longer loving me was just not true, that he still loves me and wants to be with me. He said that he had originally said those things as he thought it would be easier than telling me the truth.
Part of me is relieved that my husband still loves me, but part of me is absolutely broken at the thought of him sleeping with another woman. He said he was drunk, not thinking, it was a one time thing and that he instantly hated himself and realised that he had ruined our lives together. He is now in an extremely low place and completely hates himself.
I’m not in a place where I don’t want to just throw away what we have together, but I don’t know if I can get past this. He wants to make things right and has booked couples counselling sessions, but I’m just so heart broken and don’t know what to do.
He is my best friend and my soul mate. He has been such an incredible husband, and has put me first and made me feel so loved. We get on so well and I’m still in love with him.
I’d also like to mention that I am 24, and he is 29. He is military and I have moved around with him for the last 4 years.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated x
